IOM: More than 14 million displaced in Sudan

29-10-2024 03:59 PM

Ammon News - Amy Pope, the director general of the International Organization for Migration, stated on Tuesday that over 14 million individuals have been forced to leave their homes in Sudan, whether within the country or beyond its borders, with approximately 200,000 being displaced since the previous month.

11 million individuals have been forced to leave their homes within their own country, while 3.1 million have fled across international borders. The director general of the International Organization for Migration informed reporters that the current estimate for the number of displaced individuals is over 14 million.

Later on, she mentioned that the overall number incorporates individuals who were forced to leave before the start of the civil conflict in April 2023.

War zones continue to face serious challenges, including a lack of essential services like electricity, water, and communication, as well as a severe food shortage leading to a more than 400 percent increase in prices.

The health situation is worsening significantly, as over 80% of hospitals are not functioning and there is a critical lack of medical staff and essential medications.
