Ammon News - Ukraine celebrates the 33rd anniversary of its independence on Saturday, August 24, 2024.

On this occasion, the Ukrainian Embassy in Jordan issued a statement, stressing that Independence Day is marked for Ukrainians by the defense of their country from large-scale Russian military aggression.

Below is the full statement of the Ukrainian Embassy’s on the occasion of Independence Day:

On the 24th of August, 2024 Ukraine celebrates the 33rd anniversary of its independence. This day for Ukrainians is marked by defending their statehood from the full-scale Russian military aggression.

While not having strategic success on the battlefield and at the same time realizing that it doesn’t have enough resources to capture entire Ukraine Russia seeks to intimidate and terrorise Ukrainian civilians by attacking the critical infrastructure and residential areas in peaceful cities with missiles, guided aerial bombs and attack drones resulting in significant casualties and destruction. One of the blatant examples of such actions was the Russian missile attack on the 8th of July, 2024 on Okhmatdyt Children's Hospital in Kyiv - one of the most important children’s hospitals not only in Ukraine, but also in Europe saving and restoring the health of thousands of kids.

Russia resorts to the "scorched earth" tactics in Ukraine similar to the one applied in Syria. The aggressor state is aiming to create intolerable conditions for the life of Ukrainians depriving them of basic conditions - light, water, heat and communication.

The life of Ukrainians on the occupied territories is even more challenging. In cities and villages that are still under the temporary occupation the Russian armed forces, other armed formations and criminal organizations under the control of Russia continue to commit war crimes and crimes against humanity, acts of cruelty and ill-treatment that are not justified by the military necessity of using weapons against the civilian population of Ukraine: murders, rapes and kidnappings, mass forcible deportation of Ukrainian citizens to Russia and replacing them with other nationalities changing hereby the ethnic structure of the occupied Ukrainian territories, deliberate actions aimed at torturing the civilian population with hunger, armed attacks on educational and health care institutions, religious buildings, etc. Occupation forces of Russia as a true colonial empire purposefully resort to the destruction of Ukrainian identity: they ban the Ukrainian language and Ukrainian culture, remove Ukrainian books from libraries and burn them en masse, forcing to study the Russian vision of history.

A particularly cynical and cruel crime of the Russian occupation regime, which can never be forgiven, is the mass forced deportation from the temporarily occupied territories of Ukrainian orphans and children who have families, who are fraudulently sent to various primarily remote regions of Russia, against their will, where they are given Russian citizenship by the simplified procedure and are adopted. Hereby Russia effectively destroys the gene pool of the Ukrainian people. So far the number of such children has reached 19 546. Such actions are a gross violation of international humanitarian law, in particular the 1949 Geneva Convention on the Protection of the Civilian Population in Time of War.

By starting the war against Ukraine as one of the major world agricultural suppliers Russia also undermined the food security of the world and, in particular, the Middle East, caused the rise of prices, disruptions of the logistics chains.

The majority of the countries of the world condemned Russia’s aggression against Ukraine and imposed sanctions which are long-term and will continue until Russia restores respect for the fundamental principles of peaceful coexistence of the two states. Russia's financial resources are running out, so other countries should not count on Russian investments. Russian business is directly connected with the Kremlin, supports the policies of Vladimir Putin, accordingly, business contacts with Russia are equal to supporting Putin regime, financing terrorism, shelling of Ukrainian cities and killings of the civilian population of Ukraine.

The Defence Forces of Ukraine have managed to liberate 50% of the territory of Ukraine occupied by Russia after the 24th of February, 2022 and continue to successfully undermine the military and economic potential of the Russian occupiers, used to continue the war, by destroying oil refineries and ammunition depots, radar stations and electronic intelligence centers, training buildings, control and communication points of drones, logistics centers etc. Russia’s losses in the war have already significantly exceeded those of Ukraine due to the fact that the Ukrainian Army uses more advanced weapon systems and its’ soldiers are more qualified. As of August, 2024 since the start of the full-scale armed aggression Russia witnessed irreplaceable losses in the amount of 600 470 soldiers.
The unfolding events in Kursk Region show that the war also came to the Russian territory. The Ukrainian Army debunked the myth about the invincible Russian army. It demonstrated that all the Russian nuclear blackmail, red lines, threats of escalation is nothing more than bluffing. The myth that the Russian defense industry is strong has also been debunked by the mere fact that Russia has to purchase weapons from North Korea. But the last nail in the coffin of the reputation of the Russian Army as the 2nd the strongest army in the world was put by itself when it showed its incapability to conquer Ukraine for more than two years.

Instead the Russian Armed forces will always be remembered in history for their looting, killing unarmed peaceful Ukrainians, torturing and cruelty on the occupied Ukrainian territories.
