DoS: About half of Jordan's youth live in Amman

Ammon News - On the occasion of International Youth Day, the Department of Statistics has revealed that young people represent one-fifth of Jordan's population.

In a statement issued on Monday, the department highlighted that as of the end of last year, there were 2.3 million individuals aged 15-24 in Jordan, out of a total population of 11.6 million. This demographic constitutes 20% of the Kingdom's population, with young males making up 20.2% and young females 19.5%.

The distribution of youth across governorates mirrors the overall population distribution, with the Capital housing approximately 42% of the youth population, Irbid Governorate 19.2%, and Zarqa Governorate 14.2%. The remaining governorates account for between 1% and 5.6% of the youth population.

Youth are categorized into adolescents and young adults, with both groups comprising equal proportions. The gender ratio among youth is 116.1 males for every 100 females.

Regarding economic participation, the youth unemployment rate for 2023 stands at 22.4% overall, with 33.5% for males and 9.6% for females.

The 2022 Home Information Technology Use Survey revealed notable disparities in computer usage among Jordanian youth. Among those aged 15-19, 48.6% used computers, with males at 45.6% and females at 51.9%. For the age group 20-24, 38.5% used computers, with males at 38.1% and females at 38.9%.

Internet usage was high across all age groups, with 97.1% of males and 95.8% of females aged 15-19 online. For those aged 20-24, internet usage was 97.1% for males and 96.8% for females. Petra
