Gunman opens fire on U.S. embassy complex in Beirut

Ammon News - Lebanon's National News Agency reported that gunfire was heard in the vicinity of the U.S. embassy in Awkar, and its causes are not yet known.

The Lebanese Army confirmed that the U.S. Embassy in Lebanon in the Awkar area was exposed to gunfire by a person of Syrian nationality.

The army also confirmed that its members deployed in the area responded to the sources of fire, resulting in the shooter being injured.

He was arrested and transferred to a hospital for treatment.

The U.S. Embassy in Beirut wrote on X: "At 8:34 a.m. local time, small arms fire was reported in the vicinity of the entrance to the U.S. Embassy. Thanks to the quick reaction of the LAF, ISF, and our Embassy security team, our facility and our team are safe."

"Investigations are underway and we are in close contact with host country law enforcement," it added.
