Ammon News - Jordan ranked 11th in the list of Arab countries’ Gross domestic product (GDP) issued in the investment guarantee bulletin of the Arab Investment and Export Credit Guarantee Corporation.
According to the bulletin, which was seen by Ammon, Jordan’s gross domestic product reached $50 billion in 2023, compared to $47.5 billion in 2022, an increase of 2.5%, thus accounting for 1.5% of the total Arab GDP in 2023.
11 Arab countries, including Jordan, achieved an increase in the size of their GDP during 2023, while the size of the GDP declined in 10 other countries.
The report expected that Jordan would record an increase in GDP in 2024, reaching $53.5 billion, an increase of nearly $2.2 billion compared to what was recorded in 2023, and thus it would have ranked 10th in the Arab world in terms of per capita GDP.
In terms of per capita GDP, the report showed that Jordan's per capita GDP in 2023 amounted to approximately $4.9,000, an increase of 0.2% compared to 2022, and it is expected to reach $5.1,000 by the end of 2024.
The report also expected that unemployment rates in Jordan would decrease slightly by 0.22% compared to 2023, reaching 17.7% and ranked 16th among Arab countries.
It also expected that inflation levels in Jordan will decline in 2024 to reach 3.1% compared to 5.3% in 2023, with a decline rate of approximately 1.5%, so that Jordan, in light of this decline, will rank 5th in the Arab world on the list of consumer price inflation rates, which includes 21 Arab countries.
The report also anticipated that the interest rate in Jordan would decrease according to estimates to reach 5.75% compared to 7.5% recorded during 2023, so that Jordan ranked 11th in the Arab world in terms of the interest rate applied in the Arab world.
The report revealed that the Arab GDP is still geographically concentrated in 6 oil-producing countries and Egypt, with a share of 83% and a value of $2.851 trillion, and it is expected that this concentration in those countries will continue with approximately the same share during 2024.
