Ammon News - Head of the Physics Department and faculty member at Al-Balqa Applied University, Dr. Ali Taani, confirmed that the world will witness two solar eclipses and two lunar eclipses during the current year, but they will not be visible on the Jordanian horizon.
In year 2024, the world will witness two solar eclipses that are not visible in Jordan or the Arab world, one of which is a total eclipse on April 8, and the other is an annular (partial) on February 10, as well as two lunar eclipses, a penumbral eclipse of the moon, not seen from Jordan, on March 25, and a partial lunar eclipse (viewed from Jordan) on 9/18, Dr. Taani said.
A solar eclipse occurs when the moon is in the waning phase and completely covers the disk of the sun or part of it, While an eclipse occurs when the moon's disk or part of it falls into the Earth's shadow, such that clear darkness is observed in the moonlight, he added.
He also pointed out that the year 2024 is a leap year, meaning it has 366 days, and the month of February will have 29 days, and this event is repeated every 4 years.
