Finance Minister: Jordan will be affected by rising shipping costs

07-01-2024 02:46 PM

Ammon News - Finance Minister Mohammad Issis said Sunday that Jordan will be affected, like the rest of the world, by the disturbances occurring in the Bab al-Mandab Strait in the Red Sea, in terms of rising shipping costs.

Issis stressed that energy prices will not be greatly affected since it is transported by land, noting that Jordan has succeeded over the years in preserving and maintaining its financial stability and protecting the middle class.

Jordan is the only oil importing country and has maintained its financial stability, as Jordan’s credit rating has been raised, Issis added during a meeting with the Parliamentary Finance Committee to discuss the Ministry of Finance's 2024 budget.

The government is continuing not to raise taxes on citizens and to maintain bread and gas cylinder subsidies, the Minister stressed.
