Japan's FM discusses tragic situation in Gaza Strip with UNRWA’s Lazzarini

Ammon News - Embassy of Japan in Jordan issued a statement regarding the visit of Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan, Yōko Kamikawa, to the UNRWA headquarters in the capital, Amman, on Saturday, where she expressed her deep sadness about the tragic situation in the Gaza Strip.

After the meeting, Miniser Kamikawa was briefed by Mr. Philippe Lazzarini, Commissioner General, UNRWA, about the humanitarian situation in the Gaza strip and current situation and isuues of the UNRWA.

Below is the full statement:

On November 4, commencing at 3:30 p.m. local time (9:30 p.m. JST) for approximately 50 minutes, Ms. KAMIKAWA Yoko, Minister for Foreign Affairs, during her visit to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, visited the the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East(UNRWA) Headquarters. The overview is as follows:

1 At the outset, Minister Kamikawa held a meeting with three Palestinian junior high school students* from the Gaza Strip for approximately 20 minutes.

2 Minister Kamikawa stated that she is heartbroken by the tragic situation in the Gaza Strip and delighted to meet again with them, and hope to see them reunited with their families and friends as soon as possible. Three stundents explained what happen on them after their visit to Japan last month and the situation in the Gaza Strip. Minister Kamikawa stated that Japan will make efforts for calming down the situation surrounding the Gaza Strip as soon as possible.

3 After the meeting, Miniser Kamikawa was briefed by Mr. Philippe Lazzarini, Commissioner General, UNRWA, about the humanitarian situation in the Gaza strip and current situation and isuues of the UNRWA.

* The three students attended the meeting between Minister Kamikawa and Commissioner General Lazzarini, held in Tokyo on October 2. They could not return to the Gaza strip due to the terror attacks on October 7 and have been staying in UNRWA facilities in Amman.
