Abdullah Azzam's family dismiss allegations against Jordanian intelligence

15-03-2010 06:24 AM

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - The family of the late Islamist leader Abdullah Azzam denied the accusations echoed by Jordanian Al-Qaeda bomber Humam al-Balawi, who blew himself up in a US intelligence base in Afghanistan late last year, who allegedly stated in a video filmed shortly before his attack that Jordanian intelligence was behind the murder Hezbollah’s Imad Mughniyah in Damascus and Jordanian cleric Abdullah Azzam.

Abdullah Azzam’s wife said that she excludes the involvement of Jordanian intelligence service in her husband's assassination nearly 20 years ago in Peshawar, Pakistan, adding that "to speak on this subject has no value now, why are they digging into the past, only God knows who carried out this crime," Arab Media network reported.

On his part, Abdullah Azzam’s son Hutheifa dismissed al-Balawi’s accusations against the Kingdom of Jordan, stating that "Jordanian intelligence is innocent of the blood of my father as the wolf is innocent of the blood of Joseph."

Hutheifa said that he was perplexed at why his father’s name was thrown into this case, noting that he personally reviewed the investigation file conducted by Pakistani intelligence and that he had been in continuous contact with the official investigator since his father’s death and until 1996, adding that he still has the all the documents of the case," Arab Media Network reported.

Abdullah Azzam, a Jordanian of Palestinian origin, is considered one of the founders of the Global Jihadist Salafist movement, and had fought Soviet forces in Afghanistan before he was killed along with two of his sons in a car bomb blast in Peshawar in Pakistan.
