Ammon News - Jordan's Interior Minister Mazen Faraya and his Iraqi counterpart Abdul Amir Shammari have signed a memorandum of understanding to strengthen security cooperation between the two countries.
The agreement outlines a collaborative effort to combat various types of illegal activities such as terrorism, organized crime, drug trafficking, human trafficking, money laundering, murder, and assault, as well as information, expertise, and visit exchange.
The Iraqi minister is currently on an official visit to the Kingdom, heading a high-level delegation that includes several senior security officials.
During the signing ceremony, Faraya said that this agreement is the culmination of a long-standing and robust relationship with Iraq that is built upon shared values of unity, destiny, geography, and a rich historical and cultural heritage.
The two countries will continue to work together to combat organized and cross-border crimes through ongoing coordination efforts, he added.
He emphasized that the relationship between Jordan and Iraq is crucial to pan-Arab efforts, as evidenced by the international recognition and trust that both countries have earned in addressing the challenges that the Arab region is facing.
The Iraqi minister said that the MoU is a step forward in security cooperation between the two countries and a starting point for the next step with Arab countries in establishing a unified security project.
He recognized the expertise of the Ministries of Interior in both countries when it comes to security, which "inspires us to widen our capacity building, exchange knowledge, and conduct diverse training programs and activities."
The Iraqi Ministry of Interior has facilitated the Jordanian citizens' process to obtain entry visas to Iraq, he stated.
