PA calls pressure on Israel to declare position on two-state solution

18-07-2023 09:19 AM

Ammon News - The Palestinian Foreign Ministry urged, Monday, the international community to take "firmer" stances that would force Israel to publicly recognise the two-state solution and engage in a negotiated political process that leads to ending the occupation.

In a statement, the ministry urged the international community "not to be satisfied" with reporting on the Israeli authorities' violations in the occupied Palestinian Territories and to express fears and concerns about the prospects of the two-state solution.

It stated that "in light of the Israeli government's persistence in closing the door permanently to any opportunity to realise the Palestinian state on the ground with East Jerusalem as its capital, and its systematic destruction of any elements for establishing an independent, viable and contiguous Palestinian state, the international community is required to pressure the Israeli government to announce its position on the two-state solution.

The statement notes that the occupation "is deepening" the announced and unannounced gradual annexation of the occupied West Bank, as the ruling Israeli right openly boasts about supporting illegal settlements in the occupied territories.
