Embassy of Ukraine to Jordan comments on recent developments in Russian federation

Ammon News - Paper-tiger is going down: chaos in Russia.

Seeking glory and imperial rise Vladimir Putin decided to invade Ukraine in 2022. In turn he has harnessed shame, global humiliation and chaos inside his own country. The world has witnessed the most puzzling and embarrassing 24 hours inside Russia yesterday. The swift and unexpected mutiny orchestrated by Yevgeny Prigozhin, the leader of private military campaign Wagner, has shaken the Kremlin and revealed deep divisions within Russia's military establishment. Russian channels suggest Wagner shot down or damaged 7-8 Russian Air Force aircraft over the past two days, killing 13 or more servicemen. This episode has not only exposed the strategic vulnerability of the Putin regime but also highlighted the tenuous grip the Russian president holds over his own country.

The events that unfolded over the past few days have left the world in awe of the audacity and chaos that has gripped Russia. Putin, once seen as a strong and formidable leader, was caught off guard by Prigozhin's demarche, initially condemning it as a blow in the back and a mutiny in favor of Russia's enemies. However, as the day progressed, Putin's response softened, eventually offering Prigozhin security guarantees and other benefits just for Wagner to stop moving towards Moscow. This indecisiveness and wavering stance by the Russian president only further eroded his authority and portrayed a regime in disarray. Make no mistake – Russia as you know it will cease to exist in not so distant future.

The fact that a private military company like Wagner could march to Moscow without encountering resistance and dictate its conditions to the highest echelons of Russian leadership is a testament to the weakened state of the regime. The illusion of invincibility that Putin has carefully crafted for years has been shattered. The Ramzan Kadyrov "Akhmat" unit, which was supposed to perform combat missions against Wagner, failed to arrive at its designated locations, raising questions about its true capabilities.

What has so profoundly changed Russia lately? The answer is simple – it is its failed and brutal invasion of Ukraine. Brave resistance of Ukrainian people may be something the Putin regime will never be able to get up from. For years, Putin has relied on blaming external forces for Russia's problems, deflecting attention from the weaknesses of his regime and military. The failed invasion has shattered this facade, revealing a Russia that is far from invincible. Putin's attempts to maintain a strongman image for foreign audiences and appeal to imperialist patriotism domestically have been undermined by the recent events.

Historical precedents should serve as a warning to the Putin regime. The disastrous performance of the Russian fleet in 1905 contributed to a failed revolution, while the anger of soldiers returning from World War I sparked the famous revolution of 1917.

Putin himself alluded to these moments in his recent televised appearance, but failed to acknowledge the striking parallel between his own rule and the downfall of Czar Nicholas II. Like the ill-fated czar, Putin has been blind to the discontent and disillusionment festering within his country. We all know what happened next.
