Ammon News - The Public Security Directorate (PSD) said Saturday it is stepping up efforts to facilitate travel at border posts, which saw congestions ahead of the Eid Al Adha holidays.

The entry of travelers to Jordan through the border posts is going smoothly today as it returned to normal following jams caused by a large number of visitors at the weekend before the holidays, said Col. Samer Nasrawin, Director of the Omari Border crossing with Saudi Arabia.

He said that about 44,000 travelers, many of them Jordanian expatriates in Gulf Arab countries, made it home via Omari post, as 19,000 vehicles crossed last week and an additional 11,000 in the past 48 hours.

Nasrawin said the PSD director general had instructed personnel at the Kingdom's border posts for additional facilities to ensure smooth travel, noting the close coordination with concerned national institutions in this respect.

He said that travelers were mainly Jordanian expatriates and Arabs returning to their countries as well as tourists, adding that the robust cross-border travel coincided with the school summer holiday and the Eid Al Adha Feast.

Nasrawin also said staff at the Omari crossing were doubled and new technologies introduced.
