22-05-2023 11:54 AM

Ammon News - The sixth edition of the "Women on the Frontlines" conference kicked off in Amman on Monday under the patronage of Prime Minister Bisher Khasawneh.

The May Chidiac Foundation is organizing the event, which aims to empower and encourage women to achieve sustainable results that serve the public interest and society, as well as spotlighting the success stories of women and girls who have made significant contributions in many fields.

The conference was attended by Her Highness Princess Basma Bint Ali, Her Highness Princess Dina Mired, Minister of Government Communication and government spokesperson Faisal Shboul, Minister of Social Development and Chairperson of the Ministerial Committee for Women Empowerment Wafa Bani Mustafa and President of the May Chidiac Foundation May Chidiac and prominent Jordanian and Arab women in the political, diplomatic, media, artistic and economic fields.

Shboul said in a speech he delivered on behalf of the Prime Minister that the "decisions, legislation and measures aimed at supporting and empowering women to be on the frontlines will not enable them to win the bet if they do not believe in themselves and their capabilities on the one hand, and if the political and social environment did not show respect for women and their role in society and public life."

He pointed to the three modernization tracks: political, economic and administrative, which place the empowerment of women and bridging the gender gap at the top of their priorities.

He also highlighted a recent constitutional amendment that guarantees the empowerment of women and supports and protects them from all forms of violence, in addition to a host of laws that support and enable them in various aspects of life.

"As a member of the Ministerial Committee for Women Empowerment, I assure you that this government is working according to a clear national strategy and in partnership with all sectors and institutions representing Jordanian women, to develop plans, programs and procedures to ensure a safe work environment for women without discrimination or marginalization."

He pointed out that this strategy is supported by a media plan that corresponds to the new legislation and supports the issues of women, children and youth, lauding the role of the national media, which has always stood by women and their rights and their essential role in development and construction.
