Ammon News - The soldiers of the engineering unit for the special tasks of the Israeli occupation army carried out the detonation of dozens of mines previously planted under a bridge on the Jordan River to prevent the passage of the perpetrators of the operations and the illegal crossing into the occupied territories.

The operation was carried out in cooperation with Jordan in order to prevent harm yo anyone, after it became clear that the change in the state of the ground led to the movement of the mine pit, according to Hebrew media.

A combat engineering officer in the Israeli occupation army told the Hebrew site "Ynet" that the army’s engineering forces laid mines many years ago, and there was no documentation of their status, so it is not known exactly when this was done.

He added that more than 30 landmines were apparently buried in the early 1970s under the "Adam Bridge", indicating that the work on detonating the mines took about 6 months of initial planning.

The occupation forces clarified that these explosive mines were moved due to environmental reasons over the years and it was necessary to condone research in collaboration with engineering forces for central command experts that resulted in plans to prepare field patrol to dissemble parts of the bridge to stop its full destruction alongside some maintenance.

This bridge was used during the British Mandate up until the “6 days” war when the Israeli forces blasted the bridge, while a steel bridge was built next to the original one after a year, but is banned of use from both sides.
