Ammon News - Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi has said that a Jeddah meeting of Arab foreign ministers in preparation for a summit meeting of Arab leaders on Friday was exceptionally fruitful, and afforded a comprehensive examination of all pertinent issues.

Safadi made the remarks during an interview with Syria's Al-Ikhbariya channel.

Expressing the sentiment that Arab leadership must take a central role in handling pan-Arab issues, Safadi stated that the ministerial meeting resulted in a series of draft resolutions reflecting collective efforts to address shared challenges.

"We anticipate an upcoming phase of collaboration, which heralds tangible steps to resolve regional crises, and also to lay a foundation for cooperation that brings mutual benefit," the minister commented.

Responding to a question, Safadi acknowledged the protracted nature of the Syrian crisis, and its disastrous effects on Syria and the wider region. He asserted, "We need to take practical steps to end this crisis and address the distress it has caused, and continues to cause, to the Syrian people and the adverse effects on our region."

Safadi reiterated the commitment to building upon the consensus reached in Amman to address this crisis in a systematic, step-by-step fashion. He emphasized the success of the ministerial meeting in achieving consensus on a draft resolution concerning Syria.

This resolution underlines the importance of Arab engagement with the Syrian government through the contact group formed by the Arab League, in accordance with the agreement in Amman.

Safadi indicated the committee's objective is to commence practical measures to alleviate the suffering of the Syrian people, address the perils posed by terrorism and drug smuggling, and facilitate the return of refugees.

Commenting on international sanctions against Syria, Safadi stated, "Sanctions are a fact that we cannot disregard, but we must unite our efforts to initiate positive actions that will assist our dialogue with the international community towards gradually lifting these sanctions."

He explained that achieving this necessitates collaborative practical measures to navigate the path towards resolution. "If we set foot on the path towards this solution, all other issues will be resolved," Safadi assured.

In statements to Jordan TV and Al-Mamlka TV, Safadi maintained that the Amman meeting on the Syrian crisis, following the Jeddah meeting, was the fruit of sustained, rigorous efforts and marked the commencement of a process to resolve the Syrian crisis.

Safadi underscored the proposal for a leading Arab role in addressing the crisis and its catastrophic outcomes, both for Syria and the region, including the threats of terrorism and drugs, which hold high priority in the Kingdom.

In the ministerial meeting, agreement was reached on a draft resolution concerning Syria, emphasizing the significance of the Amman statement and the Jeddah meeting that preceded it. Safadi pledged collective Arab efforts towards an actual solution to the crisis.

The Foreign Minister noted that the meeting emphasized the importance of cooperative efforts to address challenges posed by the Syrian crisis, stating that the Amman declaration highlights the imperative to tackle terrorism and drug trafficking challenges.

For the Kingdom, the threat of drugs constitutes a tangible danger, and Safadi affirmed that it will be dealt with utmost seriousness, leading towards its complete eradication.
