Ammon News - Royal Jordanian announced that in the first quarter of this year, the airline increased the number of total passenger arrivals into Jordan to 270,000 passengers, reflecting an increase of 55% over Q1 of 2022.
In line with RJ’s new tourism strategy and the focus on incoming tourists to Jordan, RJ grew the number of the tourists by 75% with 150,000 international arrivals. As a result, the airline’s market share at Queen Alia International Airport reached to 44% in Q1 of 2023, over the same period last year.
According to the Central Bank of Jordan, tourism revenue amounted to JD1.18 billion during the first quarter of 2023, an 88.4% increase compared to the same period of last year. This is driven by the increase in the number of tourists, which reached 1.4 million tourists through all borders, growing by 90.7%, when compared to the previous year.
Vice Chairman/CEO Samer Majali highlighted that these positive figures came as a consequence of putting into practice Royal Jordanian's strategy aimed at promoting tourism to the Kingdom. He stressed that Royal Jordanian is the main driver in attracting tourists to Jordan.
He added that the additional tourist numbers will be achieved with a dedicated growth plan based on the tourism requirements of Jordan. After the successful start of Lyon and Milan in 2022, the newest additions will be Stockholm, Duesseldorf and Brussels. Furthermore, the frequency increase on flights between Amman and each of London, Paris, Frankfurt, Madrid and Rome will support the development of tourism to Jordan.
The expected number of tourists arriving into Jordan through RJ will reach 850,000 in 2023, which will reflect an increase of 53%.
Also, RJ’s new Aqaba flights and attractive fares applied since January 2023 led to an increase of 151% of travelers reaching 22,000 passengers in the first quarter.
Majali added that Royal Jordanian expects the number of passengers to grow this year in line with the company's strategic plan to operate to tourist attractions and serving all passenger segments to and from the Kingdom, as well as offering the best travel options to transit passengers via Queen Alia International Airport.
