Irbid exports down 35pct in March 2023

03-04-2023 01:51 PM

Ammon News - Irbid governorate's exports during March 2023 totaled JD75 million, decreasing by 35 percent from JD115 million during the same month of 2022.

Chairman of the Irbid Chamber of Industry (ICI) Hani Abu Hassan said the decline was due to low demand for the governorate's textile and leather exports in foreign markets, which were affected by the Russo-Ukrainian war, according to a statement issued Monday.

The textile and leather sector is still the Kingdom's top exporter despite the export fallback, followed by the foodstuff, medical supplies, engineering, electrical, plastic, chemical, mining, construction, packaging, and carton industries, added Hassan.

The United States market constituted 71 percent of Irbid's total exports, while 11 percent were shipped to Arab countries.

Al Hassan Industrial Estate's exports accounted for 93 percent of total exports, followed by Cyber City with 6 percent, while the rest were distributed to the governorate.
