Ammon News - A Romanian charter plane carrying 167 tourists landed at King Hussein International Airport in Aqaba on Monday, marking the start of flights on the newly-opened Jordan-Romania air route, in cooperation with the Jordan Tourism Board (JTB).

Minister of Tourism and JTB Chairman, Makram Qaisi, said the new air service, including 11 charter flights by the end of the season, is part of the JTB strategy to boost tourists number.

Abdul Razzaq Arabiyat, Director-General of JTB, said the Board seeks to attract tourists from Romania and other European countries through direct low-cost flights to Amman and Aqaba.

The JTB is committed to creating "healthy competitiveness" in the aviation sector to stimulate the economy, he stated, predicting that tourism will gain momentum, thanks to the new air service.
