Arab League Council hails Jordan, Egypt's support for Palestinian cause in Int'l forums

09-03-2023 10:03 AM

Ammon News - The Arab League Council on Thursday welcomed the relentless efforts made by Jordan and Egypt with the aim of restoring the Palestinian cause to the top of the international community's priorities.

The Council also urged the international community to exert pressure on Israel, the occupying power, to engage in serious peace negotiations on the basis of agreed-upon international references, supported such efforts, and underscored the centrality of the Palestinian cause for the Arab nations.

At the level of Arab foreign ministers, the Council condemned the large-scale Israeli crimes against the Palestinian people in various Palestinian cities, villages, and camps, including the recent aggression campaigns in Jerusalem, Nablus, Jenin, and Jericho.

In its decisions at the conclusion of the 159th regular session at the level of foreign ministers, which was held on Wednesday in Egypt, the Council urged the International Criminal Court to complete the criminal investigation of war crimes committed by Israel against the Palestinian people.

It also affirmed support for Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas's plan to achieve peace in his speeches before the UN Security Council and the UN General Assembly to establish a multilateral international mechanism to support credible peace negotiations on the basis of international law, international legitimacy resolutions, the principle of land for peace and the two-state solution, within a specific time frame and international monitoring.

The plan, the council added, is embodied in the establishment of an independent, sovereign Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital on June 4, 1967 lines, by convening an international conference for this purpose.
