Ammon News - The handover ceremony of medical equipment was held on Tuesday March 7th 2023, in the presence of Mr. OKUYAMA Jiro, Ambassador of Japan to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and Mr. Husein Abu Dubai, President of Al Farouq Society for Orphans Care.

In March 2022, the Government of Japan extended a grant of ninety-two thousand five hundred and thirteen US dollars (US$ 92,513) to Al Farouq Society for the provision of medical equipment under the scheme called Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGP).

This grant assistance aims to enhance the quality of medical services provided at the Al Farouq Society’s clinic in Irbid Palestinian refugee camp, through the provision of a new X-ray machine, ultrasound equipment and blood analyzer.

With the new medical equipment provided by the Japanese grant, the clinic will be able to provide more accurate and immediate diagnoses and discover a wide range of diseases at an affordable price.

It will improve the quality of medical services for the Palestinian refugees and other underprivileged people in Irbid. The clinic is now able to treat approximately 11,000 patients per year.

In the speech delivered during the handover ceremony, Ambassador OKUYAMA expressed his appreciation to Al Farouq Society’s social contribution and stated: “According to UNRWA, the Irbid Camp has the largest number of residents with chronic health problems among Palestinian refugee camps in Jordan. However, almost half of Palestinian refugees do not have health insurance. It makes this project essential to reach out and provide sufficient medical services to camp residents and underprivileged people in Irbid”.

Under Japanese Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security Projects, Japan has extended more than 10 million US Dollars for 157 projects to non-governmental organizations, schools, hospitals, and local governments in Jordan since 1993.
