Left-wing demonstrators in Offenburg protested the AfD party’s convention in the city. By evening, the situation escalated and demonstrators began sparring and using physical force against law enforcement.

Regional police said 53 law enforcement officers were injured on Saturday during a protest against the regional congress of the opposition right-wing Alternative for Germany (AfD) party in the city of Offenburg.

More than 20 lawsuits have been filed on suspicion of disrupting public order, resisting law enforcement and causing physical harm to them.
