Ammon News - Prof. Muhammad Farajat, Professor of Hydrology and Environment, confirmed that earthquakes have benefits that support human life on earth, pointing out that the Earth is balanced and stable planet, but there are processes that occur on and inside the planet that contribute to the continuation of life on it.
Farajat said in an article he published Sunday, that the earthquakes and the movement of plates are beneficial from another point of view.
He explained that in the records of sedimentary layers, there is ample evidence of the fluctuation and change of the geography, environments and climate of the planet with time and it also records seismic and volcanic events and various forms of natural disasters that the planet has witnessed throughout its lifetime.
He indicated that the change in the layers of the earth, its geology, and its enrichment with resources such as minerals, oil, phosphates and others, all came with the change of sedimentary earth environments through time and geological history, in relation to the processes of advancement and retreat of the sea, which occur slowly according to the processes of earth movements and earthquakes.
The earth's plates were one piece and one continent, but rather reshaping and separating them, and the formation of seas and oceans in their current form, is the result of the plate movement, which takes place through seismic movements and displacements, Farajat said.
He added that many cycles on the planet occur daily and continuously, such as the cycle of rocks in nature, the cycle of water, and the cycles of gases.. etc..and contribute to the supply and support of life.
He stated that the planet Earth has several covers; The lithosphere, the hydrosphere, the gaseous envelope and the biosphere are in constant contact and interaction with each other within natural processes that occur continuously.
He pointed out that our planet has a magnetic field, a north and a south poles, and the magnetic field of our planet protects the planet and life from cosmic rays with its aversion, while the earth's gravity preserves the planet and what is on it and maintains its balance.
Farajat explained that the "Gulf of Aqaba", on which our only sea outlet in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan is located, is the product of the opening-slide rift, and our valleys, Wadi Araba and the Dead Sea are also one of the rift’s results.
