Ammon News - Jordanians working in Qatar sent home a staggering $1.5 billion (JD1.06 billion) during the past five years, according to Qatari money exchangers.

In interviews with the Jordan News Agency (Petra) on Thursday, they indicated that remittances by Jordanian expatriates in 2022 amounted to $440 million (JD311.9 million), up from $400 million (JD283.6 million).

They also noted that the increase was driven by the rise in the number of Jordanian expatriates in Qatar, going from 45,000 in 2018 to around 70,000 currently, in implementation of two Qatari employment initiatives in 2018 and 2020 respectively.

Remittances by Jordanian expatriate workers are a key booster of the Kingdom's foreign currency reserves.
