GFJTU president calls for indexing minimum wage to inflation

02-01-2023 02:17 PM

Ammon News - President of the General Federation of Jordanian Trade Unions (GFJTU) Mazen Ma'aytah has urged the government to follow through on a previous decision made by a government-private committee to index the statutory minimum wage to inflation.

In early 2022, the Labor Affairs Tripartite Committee, which comprises the ministry of labor, the GFJTU, and the Jordan industry and commerce chambers, decided to postpone the minimum wage indexation decision.

The decision raises the minimum wage for non-Jordnaians to JD260.

According to Ma'aytah, the decision cannot be delayed any further because the current minimum wage is insufficient to provide for a decent standard of living and does not square with poverty threshold figures.
