JD200 mln exports of ICT sector last year

Ammon News - The representative of the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Sector at Jordan Chamber of Commerce, Eng. Haitham Rawajbeh, said that sectoral committees will be formed to follow up on issues related to the sector's work with customs and the Standards, Metrology and Tax Institution.

The continuation of the path of serving the communications and information technology sector in full partnership with all partners, he stressed in a statement on Saturday.

He added that the next stage will witness the strengthening of communication and coordination between companies in the ICT sector in all governorates of the Kingdom and the Jordan Chamber of Commerce.

Rawajbeh indicated that the Jordan Chamber of Commerce will remain in constant contact with workers in the sector and seek to solve any obstacles facing their work in cooperation with the concerned government agencies.

He explained that the ICT sector is at the forefront of the economic sectors that will have a major role in implementing the modernization vision and it is an essential part and pillar of national security, which appeared during the Covid-19, in addition to its importance as an important and supportive tributary to the national economy.

He pointed out that the introduction of 5th generation services to the local market will positively affect the revitalization of the national economy, enhance its competitiveness, attract investments, encourage leadership and innovation, and increase employment opportunities and gain experience.

Rawajbeh indicated that the investor is looking to direct his investments to countries that have a ready and developed infrastructure in the matter of digital transformation and automation of services, as it is a basic pillar for improving the business environment.

The sector's contribution to the gross domestic product during the past year amounted to 900 million dinars annually, or 3%, while it will reach 3 billion dinars, or 3.9%, during the year 2033 as an economic impact when implementing the vision of economic modernization.

The number of workers in the sector reached about 25,000 workers during the last year, constituting 1.6% of the volume of total employment in Jordan, while their number will reach 101 thousand full-time workers in 2033, as included in the vision of economic modernization.

The exports of the ICT sector during the past year amounted to 200 million dinars, which constituted 1.9 % of the Kingdom’s total exports, while it will reach 4.5 billion dinars by 2033, as determined by the vision of economic modernization.
