Ammon News - Jordanian Department of Palestinian Affairs (DPA) welcomed UN General Assembly's decision to extend mandate of International Relief Agency (UNRWA) for 3 years until end of June 2026.

In a statement on Wednesday, DPA Director General, Rafiq Khirfan, expressed satisfaction with voting in favor of renewing UNRWA's mandate, as the only legal competent UN organization, which represents a testament for the Palestinian cause.

Khirfan also highlighted the need for continued support from donor countries to enable UNRWA carry out its basic services to more than 5.7 million Palestinian refugees in its five operation areas.

He said renewal of UNRWA's mandate reflects the international community's belief in the agency's importance to Palestinian refugee community and the region's stability.
