11-12-2022 09:19 AM

Ammon News - The Intelligence Unit of The Economist's "Middle East Prospects 2023" has revealed in a report that Jordan is amongst countries whose inflation rates are "reassuring" compared to other countries in the Middle East.

The report suggests that Jordan's inflation rate in 2023 will hit 3.5 per cent. That is lower than the report forecasts for Qatar, Palestine, Israel, Turkey, Egypt, Iraq, Iran, Yemen and Syria, with Lebanon at the top of the list with the highest inflation rate at 167 per cent.

The report noted that Saudi Arabia came out as the country with the lowest inflation rates in the region at 2.8 per cent.

The report expected that Jordan's economy would grow by 2.6 per cent in 2023, while Turkey, Iraq, the UAE and Qatar were among the countries with the highest growth expectations next year.

Finance Minister Muhammad Ississ had expected, in a speech about the draft general budget law for 2023, estimated at JOD11.4 billion, that the inflation rate in Jordan in 2023 would reach 3.8 per cent.

Ississ explained that the growth rate for 2023 would be at the same rate as 2022, 2.7 per cent, noting that the nominal growth rate is 6.6 per cent.
