Ammon News - The Ambassador of the EU to Jordan, Maria Hadjithodosio, visited on Wednesday the Al Nahda Secondary School construction site in Ramtha, whose cost is estimated at JD4 million.
During a celebration on the start of the construction works, Hadjithodosio said the partnership with the German Development Bank (GDB) and the Jordanian government to build the school is part of efforts to provide safe schools, counter overcrowding in classrooms and end school double shifts, especially in Ramtha, which hosts a Syrian refugee community.
Secretary-General of the Ministry of Public Works and Housing, Nadia Masalha, said the Ministry is keen to offer safe roads and a developed construction sector, noting the government's keenness to work in partnership with ministries and agencies.
Masalha added that school projects came in response to the Syrian refugee crisis in Jordan and to raise the efficiency of educational services.
The Secretary-General of the Ministry of Education for Financial and Administrative Affairs, Najwa Qubeilat, said the establishment of the school, which is expected to open within a year, confirms the Ministry's approach to prioritising school projects and raising the efficiency of education.
Qubeilat added that Ramtha is one of the districts with the most charter schools in Jordan at 33 per cent. The EU and the GDB plan to build four schools in total.
