Ammon News - The Dean of the Madaba Institute for Mosaic Art and Restoration (MIMAR) , Dr. Ahmed Amayreh, won the membership of the administrative board of the International Committee for the Conservation of Mosaics (ICCM), which brings under its umbrella 120 member states.

This achievement, which Jordan made for the first time as an Arab country, came during 14th Conference of the International Committee for the Conservation of Mosaics, held in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, as the Kingdom participated in an official delegation specialized in the field of mosaic restoration and maintenance.

In a press statement on Sunday, Amayreh said this achievement will support Jordanian and Arab tourism globally, as Jordan is one of the countries entrusted to preserve world heritage in the mosaics field, which successfully promoted the mosaic profession locally and in the Arab world.

Work, he noted, will be done through ICCM to support projects for the restoration and maintenance of Jordan's mosaic sites, especially Madaba, as the Kingdom's city of mosaics.

The Jordanian delegation participating in the conference presented working papers on efforts to restore a mosaic panel at the Baptism Site, while the other paper focused on restoring a mosaic panel in the Khattabiya area in Madaba, and the third tackled mosaic floors in Jordan's historical sites and efforts to preserve and restore them, he noted.

Established in 1977, the Rome-based ICCM holds its conference every three years in a member state.
