Ammon News - HRH Princess Basma, honorary president of the Arab Women Media Centre (AWMC), Saturday commended the key role of women in media, their professionalism, dedication and adherence to journalism ethics.
Princess Basma was addressing the opening of the 18th AWMC conference, held at the Madaba Institute for Mosaic Art and Restoration, in partnership with the Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Knowledge Forum on the role of digital media in enhancing change, which drew women media professionals from across the Arab countries, in addition to Jordan.
in remarks at the conference, which was attended by Minister of Culture Haifa Al-Najjar, Governor of Madaba, Nayef Al-Hidayat, and head of office and UNESCO representative to Jordan Min Jeong Kim, Her Highness said that Arab women have made a remarkable and prominent presence in the field of media in all its forms, and in news production and program content.
An Arab media woman plays a role no less important and dangerous than her male peer's to carry the media message, especially in war zones and hotspots, as she puts her life in harm's way, noting the many female journalists who were killed in the line of duty.
Her Highness praised the choice of Madaba by the AWMC to hold the conference to celebrate its declaration as the 2022 capital of Arab tourism, and highlight the ancient city's tourist, heritage and historical diversity.
For his part, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Nayef Al-Fayez, pointed to the positive impact of the partnership between the media and national institutions working on promoting tourism and highlighting the bright image of the Arab countries' culture, and attracting more tourists and direct and indirect investment.
The conference, he said, is an opportunity to deepen this partnership and introduce the city of Madaba, its unique identity, diversity and heritage, as it was chosen this year as "an icon" of local, Arab and international tourism.
