Dams ready to receive rainy season

Ammon News - The Ministry of Water & Irrigation - Jordan Valley Authority said that the committee charged with ensuring the safety of dams and their readiness to receive the next rainy season 2022/2023 issued its report containing its recommendation that these vital water facilities are ready to deal with the upcoming rainy season after the committee visited all the main dam sites in various regions of the Kingdom and discover it.

The Ministry stressed the importance of dams as vital water facilities, stressing that they are of special strategic importance due to the Kingdom’s suffering from limited water resources and scarcity of nutrition as a result of the decrease and fluctuation of rainfall in recent years, and the increasing demand for water in light of the steady population increase and the recovery of economic life in various fields and national trends to expand reliance on agriculture in the development of economic life and food security.

The Ministry also noted that the water stored in dams is the main source of irrigation for crops in Jordan, in addition to supplying groundwater with a renewable water stock, stressing that its specialized technical cadres follow up the operation of these facilities and maintain the sustainability of their work by carrying out periodic maintenance work.

The committee’s report confirmed that all dams are effectively ready to receive the rainy season, especially the Wala dam according to the recommendations of specialized technicians and its gradual filling, as well as Al-Fidan dam in Wadi Araba and Ibn Hammad dam in the Southern Jordan Valley, which was inaugurated during the current season and under the supervision of the Technical Affairs Department in the Jordan Valley Authority (JVA).
