Ammon News - The Jordanian-Syrian economic forum, organized by the Jordan and Aqaba chambers of commerce and the Federation of Syrian Chambers of Commerce, kicked off in the Syrian capital of Damascus on Saturday.
President of Jordan and Aqaba Chambers of CommercSend to English Newse (JCC) Nael Kabariti said that representatives of the Jordanian economic sector are proud of the level of ties between the two brotherly countries in various fields, voicing hope the next phase to be based on a real partnership.
Kabariti stressed the importance of having a Jordanian-Syrian economic unity that takes into account the interests of the two countries, namely, in food security domain, which has become a global issue that needs unity and integration.
Kabariti called on the Syrian side to draw up a list of Jordanian goods that are allowed to enter the Syrian market and to be exempted from the decision to limit imports in order to activate and increase trade exchange between the two countries.
The three-day forum under the slogan "Participatory rather than competition", aims to further strengthen trade cooperation, start commercial partnership and advance ties, Kabariti said, noting that Jordanian companies are interested in enhancing their presence in the Syrian market.
On the sidelines of the forum, an exhibition of Jordanian products will be held with the participation of 32 Jordanian companies working in the sectors of industry, services, transport, logistics, tourism, food and trade.
The value of national exports to Syria increased by 23 per cent during the first seven months of 2022 to total JD40 million, while Jordanian imports from Syria in the same period stood at JD26 million.
