Jordan, Canada talk cooperation on development

Ammon News - Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Nasser Shraideh and the Canadian International Development Minister, Harjit Sajjan, Sunday discussed enhancing bilateral development cooperation, especially in food and water security, combating climate change and promoting Investment opportunities.

Shraideh highlighted to journalists at a conference in Amman the importance of strengthening Jordanian-Canadian ties and developing the Canadian economy and development aid policy to the Kingdom, noting the importance of continued coordination and cooperation between the two countries on identifying priority areas for Canadian future development assistance.

The two ministers agreed on the renewal of the MoU the two countries signed in 2015 to identify the priorities that would be supported and the volume of support to be provided to Jordan, including the Canadian support that an agreement there would be an agreement to support the education sector and vocational and technical education.

Shraideh noted the importance of the National Water Carrier project, which occupies a top priority for water security in Jordan, highlighting that the second donor conference, slated to take place in 2023 would mobilise more support for the project.

Shraideh added that despite the challenges facing Jordan, including the Syrian refugee crisis, the government, he noted, is keen to work and "look to the future within the royal visions aimed at moving forward in the comprehensive reform process."

Shuraida explained to Sajjan that the government adopted a roadmap to reform the public sector, improve public sector services and raise the efficiency of public administration.
