Ammon News - The Senate's Labor and Social Development Committee, headed by Issa Murad, on Sunday discussed axes of the public sector modernization map, especially in relation to government's plans to abolish Ministry of Labour.

Murad said the committee has so far received several concerns on Committee to Modernise the Public Sector's recommendations, which advised plans to abolish Ministry of Labor.

Murad also referred to His Majesty King Abdullah II's remarks in this regard, which prioritized improvement of services provided to citizens as the major and ultimate goal of Jordan's public sector modernization plan.

Stressing importance of setting a clear goal of merging ministries, he said this process should preserve worker rights and shun additional administrative burdens, while ensuring continued services to citizens.

Meanwhile, the committee's members underlined importance of providing reasons for government plans to merge some ministries and update citizens as partners in the new government re-structuring process.

The public sector modernization scheme included structural adjustments to the labor sector for 2022-2024 period, as the Ministry of Labor will be abolished and its functions and roles will be transferred to the interior and industry ministries.

According to the gov't scheme, tasks to regulate the labor market and the national employment program will be transferred to Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply.
