Ammon News - Royal Court Chief Yousef Issawi, Head of the committee to follow-up on implementation of His Majesty King Abdullah’s initiatives, Saturday opened a number of projects in refugee camps in Mababa, Amman and Irbid.

His Majesty King Abdullah II has ordered the projects be carried out during his visits to the camps and meetings with local dignitaries and representatives.

The King places, as a top priority, sustainable social and economic development with an impact on citizens across the various regions of the Kingdom, where Royal Initiatives seek to address local community needs and bring about a "qualitative shift" in the lives of target groups in cities, rural areas, Badia, and refugee camps.

In Madaba Governorate, Issawi inaugurated a fully-equipped gym at Al-Wahda Sports Club in Madaba refugee camp, one of the facilities aimed to empower youth in a healthy setting and strengthen their capacity to serve local communities.

At the Prince Hassan camp in Amman, Issawi inaugurated a three-story investment building with a total area of 2,085 meters that houses stores and warehouses.

A similar building was also opened in Irbid Refugee camp with 18 stores, which generate income for the camp’s inhabitants.

In Baqa’a camp northwest of Amman, Issawi opened a kindergarten of the local Women’s Program Center, which includes four classrooms, a playroom, a kitchen and a health unit that are fully equipped to provide a healthy and safe environment for children.

The Royal Court Chief also checked on a project to rehabilitate a 380-long rainwater drainage facility to prevent flooding and landslides.

Issawi said in press remarks during the tour that the development initiatives launched by His Majesty King Abdullah across all regions of the Kingdom, including refugee camps, are meant to complement government measures and create opportunities for local communities, enable target groups to meet their basic needs and acquire quality services as well as improve infrastructure.

He pointed out that the Royal Initiatives in refugee camps include a host of sectors, mainly services, infrastructure, social care, women and youth empowerment, civil society institutions, as well as building playgrounds and parks and supporting sports clubs and youth centers and providing services for persons with disabilities.
