Ammon News - Under the patronage of Princess Basma Bint Ali, chairperson of the board of trustees of the Hashemite Fund for the Development of the Jordan Badia (HFDJB), the fund on Sunday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Faculty of Agriculture at University of Jordan (UJ), to support frameworks of joint cooperation to develop scientific research mechanisms targeting the Kingdom's agricultural sector, especially Jordanian Badia regions.

The HFDJB general manager, Jamal Fayez, who signed the MoU, said the agreement seeks to raise level and quality of operations in the fund-owned agricultural projects in the various Jordanian Badia regions, exchange expertise, and develop mechanisms for scientific research in the agricultural sector.

This drive seeks to develop performance and level of human resources capabilities working in these enterprises, by providing specialized programs organized by University of Jordan, Fayez pointed out.

MoU will contribute to strengthening joint cooperation and coordination in the research and training fields related to Jordanian Badia, by exchanging expertise and preparing studies for joint projects for the Jordanian Badia, Fayez noted.

The MoU, according to Fayez, examines possibility of exchanging resources, enhancing national institutions' partnership, in accordance with regulations and instructions, conducting studies in the available sites and sharing technical, lab and logistical services, aimed to serving Jordan's agricultural sector and Jordanian Badia, by harnessing labs and facilities.

Fayez also noted MoU also entails possibility of exchanging animal, plant and biological genetic resources, providing technical, agricultural and scientific data, holding joint workshops on Jordanian Badia, in addition to examining possibility of cooperation to develop the HFDJB's agricultural Muwaqar station.

For his part, UJ's Nazir Obeidat, affirmed the university's keenness to support all efforts aimed to serve the community, in academic, research or technical aspects, lauding the HFDJB's role in supporting Jordanian Badia by implementing productive projects.

The university, in implementation of Royal visions, seeks to cooperate and network with institutions concerned with food security, which is a challenge that should be addressed, by achieving self-reliance and support for agricultural projects, Obeidat noted.

The university, he said, will work to achieve sustainable development in the Badia regions and help supply the national economy with scientific and research tools to establish "advanced" projects.
