Ammon News - The Inter-Ministerial Committee for Women Empowerment is scheduled to hold a regional conference on "Women in Political Parties in the Arab Region" on Friday, under the auspices of Prime Minister Dr. Bisher Khasawneh.
Held in partnership and cooperation with UN Women and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the two-day event will be attended by ministers, deputies, members of municipal councils, representatives of foreign embassies in Jordan and a number of women studies and research centers.
Also participating are women members of Coalition of Women MPs from Arab Countries to Combat Violence against Women, and experts and politicians from Morocco, Tunisia, Iraq, Algeria, Sudan, Libya, Palestine, Egypt, Bahrain, Lebanon, Norway and the United Kingdom.
The regional conference will see discussions on legislation role in creating a supportive environment for women's participation in partisan life and global success stories in overcoming challenges women face in partisan and political work.
In addition, the conference comes within the framework of Jordanian government's efforts, represented by Inter-Ministerial Committee for Women Empowerment, to enhance women participation in political life, after endorsing the political parties and elections laws and the related constitutional amendments, which would be reflected in "a greater" women representation in Parliament during the upcoming electoral cycles.
