Ammon News - The Iraqi government has said that it discovered new oil wells in the Anbar Province.

It added on Wednesday that the discovered wells were located in the Nukhaib and Tharthar towns in western Iraq.

The Governor of Anbar, Ali Farhan, said in a statement that the western regions of Iraq are known for their minerals and phosphates, adding that the government discovered the oil wells in the Nukhaib and Tharthar and the Ministry of Oil has the exact number of the newly discovered fields.

Farhan noted that the Anbar authorities are working with the Ministry of Oil and Saudi-American companies on the discoveries.

"We need the Ministry of Oil to take actions to complete new oil explorations in Anbar, western Iraq, where its area constitutes 34 per cent of Iraq's total."
