NEPCO official underscores shift to flexible interconnection systems

Ammon News - Switching to a flexible power system and intercountry electrical connection systems is now a necessity for modern power systems, said Amjad Rawashdeh, Director General of Jordan's National Electric Power Company (NEPCO) on Thursday.

During the MENA Europe Future Energy Dialogue (MEFED) conference, held at the Dead Sea under royal patronage, Rawashdeh said that there is a global shift toward electrical interconnection systems and openness to new technologies and hydrogen markets, underlining that the NEPCO is currently working on a number of interconnection projects with Palestine, Saudi Arabia and Iraq. Moreover, technical and feasibility studies are being conducted on pumped hydropower storage technology and several smart networks and energy management projects.

He underscored the importance of forming interconnection systems in the Arab region and leveraging Europe's expertise in this area, stressing that the region, which has a number of renewable energy sources, is a golden opportunity to export energy to the European market.

The MEFED conference brings together the highest-level representatives of governments, industry, academia, and civil society the opportunity to share their experiences and ideas for a reliable, affordable, and sustainable energy supply.
