Ammon News - Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply Yousef Shamali Monday said the detergents industry in Jordan has advanced to a high level, giving it access to foreign markets.
During the opening ceremony of DETEX 2022, Shamali said the detergents industry has fast and consistent development and keeps pace with the high demand for high-quality products thanks to the manufacturers' efforts in developing and promoting their products.
The minister noted that the chemicals and cosmetics industry, of which the detergent industry is part, is a key economic sector. The sector's exports in 2021 amounted to 16 percent of the total industrial exports, he indicated.
The industry has succeeded in filling the needs of local and global markets, he said, pointing out that the sector has a big opportunity to boost productivity and marketing thanks to government support.
For his part, President of the Jordan Chamber of Industry (JCI) Fathi Jaghbir said DETEX seeks to make Jordan a regional hub of the detergents industry, noting that the sector is facing many challenges that call for cooperation between the private and public sectors.
He said there are 768 facilities currently operating in the detergents industry, with a capital of some JD788 million, 15,000 employees, and exports of almost a billion dinars in 2021.
Jordan produces 275,000 tons of detergents, 200,000 of which are exported at $200 million a year, and the rest is consumed in the local market.
