Ammon News - The Higher Education Council on Saturday agreed to amend the regulations and conditions for studying abroad in non-Jordanian universities, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The new instructions will be in effect as of the beginning of the academic year 2023/2024.

The amended instructions, which were based on the recommendation of the Recognition and Certificates Equivalency Directorate, included raising the minimum admission GPA for the Jordanian general secondary school or its equivalent for the purposes of joining non-Jordanian universities outside the Kingdom, starting from the beginning of the academic year 2023/2024 to 85 per cent for medicine and dentistry.

A GPA percentage of 80 will be accepted for engineering, architecture, pharmacy and veterinary medicine, while the minimum admission GPA for official Jordanian universities are applied to the rest of the disciplines, Petra reported.

The amendments included that the period of residence in the country of study would be for the length of the study period for a bachelor’s degree and for a period of one academic year (eight months) for a master’s degree.

The eight months can be divided, so that each period of residence is not less than four consecutive months or a semester until the completion of the required period of residence.

For a PhD degree, the required period of residence will be five semesters over the course of 20 months, which can be divided, so that each period of residence is not less than four months until the completion of the required period of residence.
