Ammon News - Fast food chain McDonald's has 1,249 restaurants around the UK and is probably considered Britain's favourite fast food outlet - but what exactly is the nutritional value of our favourite treats under the golden arches?

There's nothing better than tucking into a McDonald's after a boozy night out - or indeed, when we're feeling a little fragile the next morning.

When that craving hits, we don't think twice about the nutritional content of a Big Mac or a McChicken Sandwich - and why should we?

We all deserve a treat from time to time, and when we fancy a McDonald's we should be allowed to enjoy it guilt-free.

However, as with everything in life it's important to enjoy things in moderation, so sometimes it's helpful to know exactly what is in the food we enjoy eating so much.

So what's the nutritional content of some of our favourite McDonald's treats?

Let's start with the fast food chain's signature burger, the Big Mac, which is a firm favourite among many.

The doubled-up burger contains 493 calories and 24g of fat. It also has 2.2g of salt and 9.4g of sugar.

While it's not advisable to eat a Big Mac every single day, from time to time, it's a delicious treat - and not too calorific.

For those who prefer chicken to beef when they walk through the golden arches, a McChicken sandwich is also a surprisingly low calorie meal.

Containing just 369 calories and 15g of fat, it's not quite as indulgent as we'd have first thought. The crispy chicken burger also contains 6.3g of sugar and 1.2g of salt.

If chicken nuggets are more your thing, you're looking at 261 calories for a box of six, which also contain 13g of fat, 0.6g of sugar and 0.57g of salt.

But three chicken selects come in with a slightly higher calorie content of 359 calories. They also hold 20g of fat, 0.3g of sugar and 1.8g of salt.

Of course, a McDonald's meal wouldn't be complete without a portion of delicious fries to finish off your meal.

And if you're going for a medium-size box, you're looking at 337 calories, 17g of fat, 0.6g of sugar and 0.62g of salt.

While, for the most part, none of these popular menu items have an eye-watering calorie content, there are a few slightly less popular burgers that might be best to only have once in a while.

The Big Tasty burger, for example, has a slightly higher calorie content of 799, and a fat content of 46g.

It also contains 10g of sugar and 3.3g of salt - and if you add bacon, it's 845 calories overall.

While it's important to be aware of the nutrition in your meals from time to time, it's also important to enjoy your food - and a little treat now and again never hurt anyone.
