Ammon News - Official figures showed that the number of male and female children detained by the Israeli occupation since 1967 is estimated at 50,000.

"The arrests were conducted without considering the detainees' young age, the innocence of their childhood, and their weak physical structure, and without providing their minimum basic and humanitarian needs," Head of Studies and Documentation Unit at the Palestinian Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs, Abdel Nasser Farwaneh, said Monday in a statement.

He said that the occupation authorities did not respect the minimum standard rules in the treatment of Palestinian children held in prisons and detention centers, and aimed at distorting their lives, destroying their future, negatively affecting their future directions and creating a shaken and defeated generation".

He pointed out that the occupation state continues to target and arrest children, and Palestinian children have always been present in Israeli prisons for the longest possible period, contrary to provisions of international human rights conventions, specifically the Convention on the Rights of the Child.

Farwaneh said that the occupation treats detainees with cruelty and violence and deprives them of their basic rights, such as the right to education, treatment, adequate food, unobstructed visits from parents, a fair trial, among other rights.

He added that detaining children also exposes them to various types of physical and psychological torture, so confessions are extracted from them by force and under torture and threats.
