Ammon News - The Embassy of the Netherlands and Partners For Good, a local non-profit, on Monday evening launched the "Dar Shouneh - the Jordanian Village Experience" project, to enrich the tourism product in the Southern Shouneh region and provide economic empowerment for the local community.
During the launch ceremony, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities Ammar Hijazin said that the ministry prioritizes heritage and tourism projects, especially those that contribute to local development, underscoring the importance of integrating local communities into the overall tourism system.
Dar Shouna, with its rich environmental and cultural heritage, is a model of tourism that relies on developing a product by the Jordanian society through integrating and creating many economic opportunities for families in general and for youth and women in particular.
Dutch Ambassador Harry Verweij said the project focuses on investing in the potentials and capabilities of youth and women in local communities to benefit from the networking and partnership processes in the region. It also aims at leveraging economic opportunities resulting from the comparative advantage of these communities, he added.
Walid Tarawneh, CEO of Partners for Good, said that the project was launched in partnership with the Jordanian Society for Quality Environment and Local Community and offers visitors to Dar Shouna the opportunity to enjoy the full Jordanian village experience.
