Ammon News - In 2021, groups of older people from Canada, Jordan and Togo were involved in a project to ensure their voices were prominent from the start of the UN Decade of Healthy Ageing (2021-2030). This project used the participatory video methodology to meaningfully engage with older people and their lived experience, perspectives and expertise to find solutions to problems that matter to them.
The project’s first stage resulted in three community-made films from each site, capturing lessons learned from the process. Finally, we are ready to share the final films with a broader audience on Tuesday 29 March at 2 pm (CET). There will be live interpretation in Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish.
On 16 December 2020, the Member States of the United Nations (UN) proclaimed 2021-2030 as the UN Decade of Healthy Ageing. The Decade aligns with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its call to leave no one behind, and is a global collaboration across sectors, regions, and disciplines to create a world where everyone can live long, healthy lives.
Participatory Video (PV) is a visual media tool that uses a set of techniques to explore issues and mobilize people to tell their stories and take collective action. This powerful and creative process puts older people at the centre of the Decade. It showcases one way to amplify the voices of diverse older people and strengthen their meaningful engagement in the Decade’s activities.
