The Jordan Phosphate Mines Company (JPMC) and Germany's LUMA-International Company GmbH on Monday signed an agreement under which the JPMC will supply the German company with its needs of medium-quality raw phosphate.
Under the 20-year deal, the JPMC will sell 850,000 tons per year to the German company at world market rates, according to a JPMC statement. The agreement was signed by JPMC CEO Abdul-Wahab Al-Rawad, and Managing Director at LUMA-International GmbH, Ralf Keller. JPMC Board Chairman Muhammad Al-Thneibat attended the signing ceremony.
Al-Thneibat said he hopes the deal will open the door to broader cooperation between JPMC and German companies in the field of phosphate-based fertilizers.
In turn, Keller said that his company is looking forward to more cooperation with the JPMC and new partnerships to produce phosphoric acid and phosphate fertilizers.
Earlier, the two sides had discussed the prospects for establishing a phosphoric acid plant in Aqaba or Al-Shidiyah (south), and agreed to continue these discussions to sign a memorandum of understanding in this regard.
