Workshop held on arbitration of water disputes

Ammon News - The Water Ministry and USAID on Sunday held a workshop titled “Arbitration and Dispute Settlement in Engineering Contracts”.

The workshop was attended by Secretary General of the Water Authority Bashar Bataineh, Director of the USAID Water Resources and Environment Office Veronica Lee and a number of specialists and project supervisors in the water sector.

In his speech, Bataineh stressed the importance of holding the workshop, which highlights following up on water and sanitation contracts, especially since multiple strategic national projects are underway in the water sector.

Due to the matter’s sensitivity and the impact of emerging disputes between partners on completing projects on time, the sector pays great attention to the workshop’s topic, he noted.

Bataineh lauded efforts exerted by the USAID in organising the training workshop and providing participants with advanced scientific and practical skills in accordance with the latest international standards in the role of arbitration in resolving economic disputes of all kinds, stressing the need to apply those skills to ensure the progress of projects in various regions of the Kingdom.

Lee affirmed the agency's commitment to supporting the water sector to achieve water security, referring to a number of water and sanitation projects in various regions in the Kingdom that aim to enhance the water situation.

The workshop focused on contracts, types, parties, disputes and their resolution, arbitrary tribunals, laws and regulations in accordance with the standards of the ICC UNICITRAL, the UN and Jordanian Arbitration Law.
