Ammon News - Deputizing for HRH Princess Basma bint Talal, Senator Yassin Husban on Tuesday evening patronized the 1st International Conference for Interventional Radiology, a specialized field within radiology for interpreting medical images and performing minimally invasive surgical procedures.

In a speech at the opening ceremony, Husban stressed the importance of such conferences in exchanging expertise, keeping up with the latest developments and tapping into experts' research results and treatments.

"Exchanging expertise among specialists reflects positively on doctors and patients equally", he said, highlighting the importance of educating patients and the general public on interventional radiology and its role in diagnosing and treating illnesses.

"The Covid-19 pandemic has taught us a lot, and has prompted us to reconsider, re-evaluate and reorganize local and global health systems to address any potential emergencies", he indicated, pointing to Jordan's achievements in the medical sector in general, and in interventional radiology in particular.

Husban pointed to the cooperation between the private medical sector and the National Goodwill Campaign, whose higher committee's president is HRH Princess Basma, and the participation of many doctors in the campaign's free and diverse activities.

For his part, Chairman of the Scientific Committee at the Jordanian Society of Interventional Radiologists (JSIR), Maher Khawaldeh, said the two-day conference is an ideal way to exchange expertise and be up-to-date on the latest medical developments.

Interventional radiology, he said, aims to perform various minimally invasive procedures, which have the same efficiency as traditional procedures, but less impact on the patient's body and result in less complications.

Khawaldeh said the conference will include workshops on the treatment of cerebral hemorrhages at the King Hussein Medical Center and lectures on different sub-branch of interventional radiology.

Izzeddin Qtaish, President of the JSIR, underlined that Jordan was one of the first countries to introduce this medical major, through the Jordanian Royal Medical Services, thanks to His Majesty King Abdullah's commitment to developing medical services.
