Ammon News - Jordan's private sector companies have imported nearly 58,000 tonnes of foodstuffs in the last two-week period.
According to statistical data released by General Association For Foodstuffs Merchants (GAFM), the shipments that were imported from last February 24 to March 12 were mainly vegetable oils, sugar, rice, powdered milk, as well as chilled and fresh meat and fish.
Jordan imports food worth nearly $4 billion annually, part of which is raw materials for industry and other ready-for consumption products, the GAFM added.
Jordan's food sector a main, important trade activity and currently comprises 14,000 companies countrywide, providing nearly 200,000 job opportunities, the majority go to Jordanians, the statement said.
